BHS boys basketball wins section title, set for state tournament appearance

The Blaine High School boys' basketball team won the Section 7AAAA Championship on March 12, with a thrilling 81-74 overtime victory over Andover. The Bengals will make their sixth state tournament in school history, their first since 2016.

The 2026 MSHSL Boys Basketball Class AAAA State Tournament will be held March 24-28 at Williams Arena on the University of Minnesota campus, Target Center and the Gangelhoff Center at Concordia University, St. Paul.

The Bengals (22-6) earned the No. 8 seed the Class AAAA state tournament and will play No. 1 seed Tartan (29-0) at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, at the Target Center. The winner between Blaine and Tartan will play the winner between No. 4 seed Lakeville South and No. 5 seed Chaska on Thursday, March 26 at 6 p.m. in the semifinals at Williams Arena. 

BHS enters the state tournament averaging 58.6 points per game while shooting 45 percent from the field, including 32.6 percent from behind the arc. 

The Bengals are led by Shiloh Ayitey who averages 20.6 points per game. Henry Semans is averaging 14 points per game and Tuulla Gemta has pitched in with 12 points per game for the Bengals.
